As I wrote earlier this year, after Californians approved the definition of marriage being between a man and a woman, reporters felt the need to show Focus on the Family’s contributions to the effort. However, all reporters failed to include the Tim Gill contributions. Isn’t that the story? The battle between Focus and Gill and the argument that both are meddling in other state’s affairs? Why, then, didn’t these reporters include Gill’s contributions as well?
This past election in Maine, voters vetoed state legislation allowing same sex marriage. Again, the headlines read “Focus donates $155,000 to Maine gay marriage fight.” But, again, it also fails to mention that Gill gave $250,000 and Pat Stryker’s brother gave $75,000 opposing the effort.
Even though Focus was out-contributed by local gay-activists and yet still on the winning side of the vote, says something. It also says that the media will continue to insinuate that Focus is hateful and Gill and company are simply do-gooders. Sad.
