No surprise...
Scott McInnis was my Congressman and I have seen him campaign over many years. He's a true conservative in the finest sense of the word. He's tireless in reaching out to individuals and groups whether they agree or disagree with every position he takes or every vote he makes.
I am not at all surprised McInnis is ahead this early. The best thing we can do for the Republican party and Colorado is to get behind McInnis and win the governor's race in 2010.
I'm surprised
That someone would claim that McInnis is a "true conservative" in any sense of the term. By comparison, he's more conservative than Ritter, but that isn't saying much.
The best thing for the party is a truthful, honest primary contest so the party can choose their candidate instead of having one shoved down our throats. If McInnis is a "true conservative" then he should prevail given his organization, funding, etc. However, let the members of the party decide and not some backroom deal that determines our candidates.
There is a primary...
As far as I know Dan Maes is still in the race so there will at least be the assembly process and probably a primary.
There was no backroom deal that I have heard of or someone forgot to tell Senator Penry's friends and family in Mesa County. As far as Mr. Tancredo is concerned I think he saw rather quickly that this is not the year for his big issue, immigration. I'm hopeful we can put this myth to rest and get on with the major elections that are so critical in 2010.
