The Denver County Republicans held a straw poll at their First Thursday Breakfast this month. While participation wasn't anywhere near as high as the straw poll at the Douglas County Lincoln Day Dinner (that one was won by Ryan Frazier with ~60% of votes cast), this one does seem to show some definite favorites emerging.
For Colorado Governor:
1. Josh Penry – 47.6%
2. Scott McInnis – 14.3%
3. Tom Tancredo – 9.5%
4. Bob Beauprez – 4.8%
4. Mark Hillman – 4.8%
4. Dan Caplis – 4.8%
4. Ryan Call – 4.8%
4. Undecided – 4.8%For U.S. Senator:
1. Ryan Frazier – 42.9%
2. Undecided – 19.0%
3. John Suthers – 4.8%
3. Hank Brown – 4.8%
3. Mark Hillman – 4.8%
3. Bill Owens – 4.8%
3. Tom Tancredo – 4.8%
3. Cleve Tidwell – 4.8%
3. David Balmer – 4.8%
3. Dick Wadhams – 4.8%
Not enough votes were cast for this to be meaningful, but if you're a Senate candidate you can't be too happy about not registering any support or tying with a joke entry. This straw poll is notably one of the first I've seen on the gubernatorial nomination, it will be interesting to see how Penry v. McInnis plays out in future polls.
Comments
Please don't add Tidwell...and this is why
I keep reading comments from the Tidwell supporters saying he's gaining all of this momentum, he's getting to do this and he's getting ready to do that. The problem is, he's not doing anything of consequence as a candidate. He's not gaining support. At every GOP event I go to I ask people what they think of Cleve Tidwell and the only response I ever get is "Who's that?"
Other than spamming online polls, Tidwell and his supporters are doing absolutely nothing else. Nobody, not even his supporters, can say why he is running and what he stands for. All they do is keep saying generic statements with no substance.
Rocky Mountain Right, please don't encourage this sort of nonsense by adding this joker to your candidate directory. He has absolutely no business on it. If you include him you may as well include every minor party candidate out there too.
support for Tidwell
Will Rocky Mtn Right list Cleve Tidwell in the 2010 Candidate Directory now? I mean, considering that he got a higher straw poll result than Beauprez or Caplis for U.S. Senate...
No.
Considering he was probably there to vote for himself, no that doesn't mean anything. He will not be added partially because I do not consider him to be a serious candidate and partially because some of his supporters engage in astroturfing tactics that consist of spamming comments and polls at this site and others.
there is hope...
Cleve Tidwell probably deserves more credit than you give him. I heard that he'll be announcing some big supporters of his candidacy very soon. When people see the names he has lined up behind him, then they'll know we're about to see a serious Senate run-off. And I say make the most of it. Keep Bennet geussing as to who is going to come out of the canon at him.
N/T
I find your claim highly dubious.
Go, Josh!
I care about two things. Water and Education. I've kept a close eye on Josh Penry since he was first elected and I've continuted to be impressed by his ability and his capacity to lead. I hope he decides to run and I know he'll make hamburger out of the likes of scott mcinnis. Go for it, Josh!
