( - promoted by Rocky Mountain Right mostly because it is some of the first sniping in the gubernatorial primary. Here's your preview of the next 16 months -)
Josh Penry’s people have been relentlessly fueling speculation that he may run for governor. Which raises the question; how much of this fueling is being done in the offices of the sate capital and how many phone calls, emails, and other uses of state owned resources have been used to promote the Senator’s political ambitions? This seems like a reasonable inquiry considering that essentially all of his political resources involve his Senate offices and the State Capitol.
It’s a tongue-in-cheek joke these days that the Capitol has become Penry 2010 campaign headquarters. Spend enough time around the Senate and House alike, and these types of comments are guaranteed to be heard frequently among both Democrats and Republicans. It may not be so funny though if people start digging into the Senator’s records and find that a significant amount of covert campaigning has gone on behind the closed doors of his Senate offices. It’s only a matter of time until The Denver Post, Grand Junction Sentinel, Colorado Pols and other resourceful media outlets, with the help of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Colorado Open Records Act, explore Penry’s phone records, text records, emails, web activity, etc.
If the Republican Party aspires to retake the governor’s seat, they better hope this happens soon. It’s certain that Ritter’s campaign will be ready to milk this for all it’s worth, and rightfully so. Penry and his staff have no right to use public resources for his own personal political ambitions, and FOIA and CORA are in place to help catch him if they did.

stop the in-fighting
The GOP had better stop this in-fighting. If you want to call bullshi- then call it on our silly primary battles. These candidates need to be humble and treat each other with respect.
Need I remind anyone that the GOP in this state is competing against one of the best funded liberal agendas in the country? The Democrats have a machine in process to gain money and supporters, and they'll laugh at us as we eat one another.
Let's not forget where the real battle lies: getting rid of Ritter, Bennett, Markey, and whoever else we can get.
I Call Bullshit
Didn't you guys make an effort a week or two ago to warn off trolls aiming to use your site to push for a certain candidate? This is an obvious attempt at hijacking your site by Mike Hesse and his ilk. He played the same card (using the same name) on ColoradoPols today.
I would be amazed if Penry is using state resources for anything outside of his Senate duties. To suggest that HE is pushing the gubernatorial race rumor is pretty ridiculous considering it's McInnis' folks that are suggesting it. As your poll rightly reflected...the base of the GOP in Colorado is ready for a new face...not a washed up moderate congressman from the 90s.
Clearly, looking at GOPstudent's blog...
That GOPStudent is in fact Mike Hesse who was Bentley Rayburn's campaign manager last year. It's a bit disappointing that Mike Hesse, on behalf of his old boss Scott McInnis, thinks that the republican base will respond to these sort of ad hominem attacks on the character of Josh Penry and the party in general. It's just as disappointing that Rocky Mountain Right would facilitate this kind of fratricide.
