Parker, CO - 8/7/2009
Senate Minority Leader Josh Penry R-Grand Junction paid a visit to the Parker GOP Breakfast Club this week as a Candidate for Governor. The father of two children aged 3 and 7, Penry has a strong interest in Colorado Schools. If he prevails in the statewide primary summer, Penry will likely challenge Bill Ritter in his reelection bid to stay as Colorado’s Governor.
At the meeting, Penry spoke passionately about the changes be believes the GOP must make to regain their dominance. "Obama and Ritter are the best motivators we have had in a long, long time. The Republicans are in the wilderness for a reason. We need to acknowledge our past failures and make a clean break from it." Penry said.
Penry pointed out the unionization of state government under Bill Ritter. "For years we had the labor peace act. Then Bill Ritter came in and unionized the state government. Denver is not Detroit. He is using gimmicks to balance the state budget. In 2011 there will be a billion dollar spending deficit."
When asked about workers compensation and the Pinnacol Insurance issue, Penry stated " The Ritter administration is doing the exact opposite of AIG. AIG went to the federal government for money. Bill Ritter went to Pinnacol for money."
Penry is a well spoken, intelligent public servant and he was well received by the Parker crowd. Parker’s own state senator, Mark Scheiffel, happily joined the Penry band wagon to the crowd’s delight.
Penry is the second candidate from the Western Slope to throw his hat into the governors race ring, joining former 3rd C.D. Congressman Scott McInnis and businessman Dan Maes.

Good Post
Thanks for the update. It's good to hear that Penry is getting a good reception among the party faithful. I suspect GOP voters who care about spending, life and traditional conservative values will quickly realize that it's PENRY who is right on all of our issues....not the other fella with the mustache.
Why is it...
Why is it that you, and so many other Penry supporters can't just say what they like about Penry without taking some sort of shot at McInnis? It's one of the biggest things that bothers me about Penry supporters-so many of them seem to be against McInnis as opposed to being for Penry. I like to be for someone, not just against someone else. Care to address this at all?
Sure thing
Here are 5 things I like about Penry:
1. He believes in low taxes and limited government -- and his record proves it.
2. He believes in protecting private property rights -- and his record proves it.
3. He believes now (and has always believed) in the sanctity of life -- and his record proves it.
4. He believes government doesn't need to raise taxes and fees to solve every problem -- and his record proves it.
5. He believes in protecting traditional marriage -- and his record proves it.
Most of all, I believe Penry is smart, energetic and able to articulate the principles of the Republican party I joined 20+ years ago. I believe his brand of non-judgmental conservatism is exactly what our party needs if we're going to be successful next year and beyond.
I don't mean to be critical of the other guy with my postings but I find it extremely frustrating that our party is even considering nominating a lawyer-lobbyist from Hogan & Hartson to be our nominee to take on Bill Ritter. Why would we do that? Where's the contrast?
Thanks.
No-thank YOU
Seriously. It's been a major source of frustration lately to see so many people start going for each other's throats, and I am worried about what it will do to us as a party. Differences are fine, but basing a campaign off of the other guy's negatives will hurt feelings that usually take longer then August-November to heal. And as damaging as it is to see someone say it, I find it much more damaging to see it on the web as nothing ever disappears on the internet... So I really appreciate you taking the time to outline the positive things.
I certainly understand where you're coming from by being alarmed that McInnis is being considered; I too have some concerns. But after reading both sides of your view point, I think your reasons for Penry are much stronger then your reasons for being against McInnis.
Thanks again for taking the time. You brought up some good points to consider.
