Why the "Red Dawn" Project?

The 1984 film Red Dawn depicted a small group of Colorado teenagers fighting to repel a Soviet invasion. The Red Dawn Project slate of candidates are fighting to repel a Democratic invasion from the state. In keeping with the theme, when the tiered system of ranking candidates is implemented in 2010 the top-tier candidates will be dubbed "Wolverines."

Qualifications:

Candidate must be running against a Democratic incumbent, in an open seat previously held by a Democrat, or in a Republican-held open seat facing serious Democratic opposition.

Meet minimum fundraising goals as of 10/01/09*:
$350,000 for gubernatorial and U.S. senate campaigns (increases to $500,000 on 1/1/10).
$150,000 for congressional campaigns (increases to $250,000 on 1/1/10).
$60,000 for all other statewide offices (increases to $100,00 on 1/1/10).
$10,000 for state senate campaigns (increases to $12,000 on 1/1/10).
$4,000 for state house campaigns (increases to $5,000 on 1/1/10).
*Calculated as a total raised as regular donations or candidate loans by a committee since its inception, in-kind contributions do not count towards the tally. Fundraising requirements will be adjusted upwards for campaigns as the year progresses. Candidates will be divided into three categories reflecting tiered fundraising goals starting in 2010.

The candidate has a demonstrated commitment to fiscally conservative policies and fighting back against Bill Ritter and Nancy Pelosi's liberal agendas.

The candidate has refrained from engaging in personal attacks or waging a smear campaign against other Republicans.

Candidates may be dropped from the list if they fail to keep up with the incremental fundraising increases or if they engage in extremely negative campaign tactics.
